DC Movies in Development

I had previously talked about the planned DC movies by the executives. Now I'm going to mention the DC movies in Development.

Movies that may appear in the next 5 years
SHAZAM (April 5, 2019)

I will talk about the movies that are chosen, or that may be not happen because of impressions later in another article.

Movies that will appear in the next 10 years (usually towards the later segment)

Supergirl:
Announced in 2018, Supergirl might be the lead Kryptonian and the head of the Justice League (if there is any) fo the foreseeable future, especially after her success in the TV show. Her cousin may have to live in her shadow.

"New Gods":
Announced in 2018, the movie was supposed to be about aliens introduced in Justice League. The Big Bad Darkseid was supposed to appear at the end according to Snyder, but the plot was changed and Deathstroke appeared. The New Gods include a lot of folks from a dark planet Apokolyps, and a lighter planet New Genesis, and the 1970s which created it. Characters include Orion, Darkseid, The Forever People, Mister Miracle and Mrs Barda. Ava DuVernay has signed on as director with Kario Salem as screenwriter.

Gotham City Sirens:
Announced in 2016, it's a spin-off of Birds of Prey, a trinity of characters with Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy. The weirdest friends right. This is the last Harley Quinn movie, so it's fitting that the movie is also a trinity.

Batgirl:
It could be another spin-off to Birds of Prey. Christina Hodson, the same screenwriter of Birds of Prey is the screenwriter.

Black Adam:
It could be a spin-off of SHAZAM. The character Black Adam is an anti-hero and supposed to be interlinked with SHAZAM. "Dwayne Johnson" has already been cast as Black Adam, and the movie is an origin movie for the anti-hero. This leaves room for a third movie in which SHAZAM and Black Adam appear. Like I said, they happen to be in their own series.

WW 3:
Announced in 2019, Patty Jenkins said she had plans for WW 3 already mapped out. She wanted a trilogy. Many directors do this, it may be true but mostly I think it's a good marketing ploy.
(eg: I already have Avatar 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 mapped out) - no offense by the way, like I said it might be true.

The Trench:
A Horror movie was announced in 2019, a spin-off from Aquaman. James Wan will be a producer. Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald are screenwriters.

Justice League 2:
They said there was no immediate plans for Snyder to direct, even though most articles say most of the story and the characterization was not according to plan, because of the Joss Whedon rewrites. Right now, there are no plans though it's likely their movie will be made in the next 10 years in order to cast the same Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman. JL 2 can use different characters this time.

Movies that may appear in the next 10 years, or may be delayed and appear in another 20 years

Cyborg:
There was a Cyborg movie with Ray Fisher as Victor Stone to be released in 2020 but it got delayed. The issue is that the idea is not original. The film was announced in 2014, but after the box office reception of Justice League, DC commented that the movie has been delayed with no further statements.

Green Lantern Corps:
The film was announced in 2014. It was set to be released in 2020 but it got delayed. They've been going over the script since then, rewrites after rewrites. I think they're looking for a solid director. Instead of choosing Hal Jordan or Guy Gardner, maybe they should choose Jessica Cruz, someone who's under training and with anxiety which she must overcome in order to truly succeed as a Green Lantern.

Deathstroke:
Announced in 2017, a Deathstroke movie was in development even way before Justice League. He wasn't supposed to appear in Justice League in fact, according to Snyder. Before that, Deathstroke was planned to be in The Batman movie. Deathstroke is an anti-hero but there is a Marvel hero called Deadpool was created. There is not much news about the movie Deathstroke, in fact Deathstroke might be one of the leading characters announced in The Suicide Squad.

Lobo:
Lobo was in development since 2009 and since then it has been in development hell. Right now there is a chance that Michael Bay might direct it with a lower budget. Lobo could even prove to be more popular given his first upcoming TV debut in the show Krypton. There is not much news about the movie Deathstroke, in fact Deathstroke might be one of the leading characters announced in The Suicide Squad.

Nightwing:
Announced in 2017, a Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing movie (The Flying Graysons) was in development, with the duo Chris McKay and Bill Dubuque were directors. A sidekick of Batman with similar origins, it might take time.

Justice League Dark:
The movie has been in development since 2013, and Guillermo del Toro was supposed to direct it, but he withdrew after the negative audience response from Batman v Superman. He was the perfect director for this movie too, after directing Hellboy 1 & 2. After directors dropping out, they just need a director. They have 2 screenwriters, Michael Gilio and Gerard Johnstone. Michael Gilio was rewriting the previous script.

Booster Gold:
In Development since 2015, with producer Greg Berlanti. Initially about to be a buddy cop movie with Blue Beetle, the movie was later considered for a tv series at one point. The movie entered script rewrites with multiple screenwriters and now was decided to be a solo Booster Gold movie. It got a rewrite from Zack Stentz and Greg, and Greg Berlanti also expressed interest in being the director.

Blue Beetle:
In Development since 2018, screenwriters Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer and Zev Foreman are attached to the project. Blue Beetle was disconnected from Booster Gold, but the movies can still come together later. Currently Booster Gold is supposed to just appear.

Plastic Man:
Announced in 2018, it sounds like Mr Fantastic. Amanda Idoko is the screenwriter.

Movies that may be dead, or delayed for after 20 years

Man of Steel:
Announced in 2014, the movie might be dead. Henry Cavill has quit.

Deadshot:
Announced in 2016, the movie might be dead. Will Smith has quit.

Harley Quinn and Joker:
Announced in 2017 after the success of Suicide Squad and the audience's warm reception to Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, "Harley Quinn and Joker" sounded like a good project. The production was supposed to start after "The Suicide Squad", but after hiring James Gunn who had issues with Jared Leto, Jared Leto dropped out.

Joker:
Announced in 2018 after the success of Suicide Squad and the audience's warm reception to Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Joker sounded like a good project. But with no director and screenwriter, and the minimal role of Jared Leto's Joker in Suicide Squad, it seems like Jared Leto's Joker is over. Especially with the new prequel upcoming movie this year titled Joker.

So that's it for now, SkateLane Booting Out
