I haven’t been updating my blog, so I thought I’d start with the most anticipated Movie of the Year – “Avengers: Endgame.”
So okay, a movie finally overtook Avatar in becoming #1, but I’m not surprised it took 10 years. So how did James Cameron bring Avatar and Titanic into #1 each before Endgame? All 3 are expensive movies, with extensive CGI. Titanic was heavily an emotional romantic movie yet still reached #1 with 11 Oscars and it took time to grow as well. 12 years later Avatar used highly realistic 4D and motion capture to become #1.
10 years later, a movie reached #1 again. What did it bring to the table? Inflation? No. It was money, high-budget movies with the addictive power of watching it, adding to it the higher prices of IMAX screens and 3D glasses.
But the MCU did an incredible job mixing up many characters from all movies starting from Iron Man. Using the same actors over 11 years is a great accomplishment. A costly affair yes, mainly because of the multiple actors, but CGI has become less costly compared to earlier movies when you relate it with other figures. Marketing is another area where they spent a lot of money on. It’s supposed to be one of the most expensive projects related to marketing. The movie would have done well even if the theatrical rating was low. Thankfully the theatrical rating was high.
Along with the ending, the industry has created multiple Marvel fans and stans alike. They barely even know the characters from the comics. DC is trying hard as well and has seen recent popularity. But even still, it’ll take time to overcome Marvel.
The review is not about the comics or DC, it’s about the movies, or rather the movie Avengers: Endgame. The movie was set in a post-apocalyptic setting, unlike the previous movie. It still has the humor that all MCU movies are known for. All the actors from MCU movies were included in Endgame, and it made the viewing experience more thrilling. The final moments were highly action-packed and emotional.
Despite all that, I thought the movie was a mess. Too many plot threads and actors do not really help the film. If you haven’t seen the other MCU movies, you won’t appreciate this movie. For example, let’s start with the start of the movie. It starts with a sudden appearance of <spoiler>Captain Marvel<spoiler>. I didn’t like Infinity War either, but I can say this was better.
The future of MCU has been planned out partially, but I don’t see any way they can make a #1 movie in the next 5 years. The only movie that can overtake Avengers: Endgame in the box office as #1 is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
2021 Draft
I thought I might complete this review ever since Avatar became #1 in the box office again. The main reason was that I was not really interested in this article before that, but now I have motivation. Let us not forget that no matter which movie is #1 again, Disney is still the victor. I am still against the purchase of 21st Century Fox by Disney, even though I hate Murdoch. 21st Century Fox had countless titles like Alien, Predator, Deadpool, which will never be created by Disney, not again.
I might have been a little harsh on my review before, given my inability to see superhero movies as a genre, and my allegiance to DC Comics. Of course, in the case of DC Comics, I see things differently because of my childhood preference for DC. Nevertheless, I feel like 95% of the comic book superhero movies are for kids.
I shall review both Infinity War and Endgame in this review. The two final avengers movies were like two pieces of a coin. Infinite characters missing from Infinity War were main characters in Endgame, while numerous actors missing in Endgame are main characters in Infinity War. It's really hard to remember who is who. I just know a few like Iron Man, Thanos, Thor. I am not going to spoil the last two Avengers movies in my review.

I reviewed The Matrix trilogy in my ratings book. I tried keeping each movie distinct from another. My ratings never changed. I tried watching them in reverse chronological order. My ratings were still the same. I have no idea how many times I have seen The Matrix trilogy, but it is one of my favorite trilogies. I can hardly say that about Avengers.
Despite its large cast, production, script, the movies suffer from the same age-old issues that all films with superheroes have. Most of its plot is borrowed from other movies. I would advise you to save yourself some time and watch The Matrix trilogy instead. I heard a fourth reunion film is coming up this year. Unrequired, yes. Depends on how fresh the film is.
Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame are a 2.5/4 recommend.
