Lucky Number 13 Redesigns Herself in the Most Feminist Way in Doctor Who
People look up to Doctor Who. They have some big shoes to fill, and Doctor Who sets a good example. The new Doctor has made a strong impression among old fans and new viewers this season. With a few episodes, "Jodie Whittaker", the 13th incarnation has nailed it with her witty charm and her powerful performance.
Ever since seeing The Master, or rather "Missy", it was clear that Time Lords could swap genders. Now, the Doctor is trying to digest the fact that she is a woman for the first time. She always undergoes a lot of change throughout her life whenever she regenerates, and this is the biggest change as of now. So, she changes her own appearance by restyling herself in women's clothes. I guess figuring herself out will be a focal point of this entire season.
In the modern Doctor Who series, feminism has always thrived in Doctor Who. The Doctor has had companions that helped her in her travels. From Rose to Amy to Clara to Bill, each companion has been characterized with a distinct personality. The show has found many ways to improve itself mainly because of its companions. There have been many companions from the classic Doctor Who era as well which I intend to watch eventually, and the only one that sticks in my mind is Sarah Jane Smith. This season, The Doctor and one of her companion (Yasmin) have to set an example for feminism to thrive again.
