The Walking Dead's Helicopter Finally Reveals Itself
Helicopters in The Walking Dead are a great concept to introduce. There have been multiple sightings of a helicopter in The Walking Dead, usually by Rick. Each time it happens, the internet will buzz about it. Now we get a vague explanation about them.
The helicopter had been coming to the show multiple times, with no explanations. Wild fan theories emerged, with the best of them claiming that the helicopter was bringing in resources for The Savours. But it looks like it's the other way around. The helicopter is communicating with the scavengers, or Anne specifically. Anne (or Jadis) has been "presumably" bringing in people for them. Anne makes deals with Negan instead of Rick in Season 7 and 8 because she asks Negan for people.
The helicopter has everybody puzzled. But not much serious thought has to go into it, because we finally have a "possible" explanation.
In the start of Season 9, Anne sees the helicopter arriving while the group is out fighting walkers.
...
Helicopter Crew: "Will you have an A or a B?"
Anne: "Neither. I've done my share"
...
Anne: "What will it take?"
Helicopter Crew: "An A"
The AB helicopter, as I named them, has a way of communication with Anne. Using a walkie-talkie, Anne is asked whether is has an A or a B, which implies she has to deliver someone along with her. Now what does that mean? My best guess is on Human Trafficking. A could be the a worker, a follower, or someone to be put in prison or turned into a walker. B could be a commander, or a friend in need of medical attention, or someone who will eventually be an A. We can only do wild guesses. As Negan says, "people are a resource."
Anne was having a serious relationship with Father Gabriel when she left to see the helicopter. Father Gabriel came and saw her conversation, and she almost used Father Gabriel as an A, but she couldn't do it. She asks him to come along with her to a "fairyland", but Father Gabriel wouldn't do it by betraying his morals, and has to report back to Rick. Anne says, "And all this time I thought you were a B." She knocks him down and escapes.
Having no-one, she planned to take out the pilot and every member of the helicopter with a gun, but luckily she finds Rick stranded. Rick had just taken himself out with the dynamites She tells the pilot that she has a B instead of an A, and she delivers Rick as a B to the AB helicopter while promising Rick that he will be alright. I'm not sure about the promises, and I'm not sure about the helicopter crew. I'm not sure about where they are even going. Since this is a strategy for exits, this gives a good way to explain everything with the helicopters. Still, more explanations might come since I just heard that Andrew Lincoln signed on for 3 Walking Dead movies.
Apart from Season 9, there have been multiple helicopter sightings in the past, and usually whenever Rick or the audience sees a helicopter, something bad happens. Helicopter sightings can be traced back to the first season.
The first time was in the first season while Rick was chasing a helicopter sighting and eventually Glenn rescues him. He was lucky.
The next time, he saw a helicopter towards the end of the season 2 finale and a massive zombie herd attacked him.
Then in Season 3 Episode 2, a helicopter crashes and the Governor shoots the men.
Then in Season 8 episode 14, a helicopter was seen by Rick close. This was the closest sighting of a helicopter by Rick, before Season 9. Rick fights with Daryl and strays off, wandering and that's when Rick sees the helicopter close to him. Pretty soon, they launch a coordinated attack with Anne against the saviors, and Anne double crosses Rick.
We've seen helicopters being used in the comics. The've also appeared in the companion series Fear the Walking Dead, but being a prequel and having a different setting, it's easy for helicopters to show up. Still, at least now there is a vague explanation for it. The AB helicopter takes people to a fairyland or a prison or a place of their own, hunting for more people. They sound more or less like Negan.
